Crazy Dog Lady

We celebrated Chowder’s 4th birthday this past Wednesday.  It was the second anniversary of the day we adopted him and since they knew little to nothing about his background when we brought him home, we decided that it would be a suitable day to celebrate.  We don’t actually know for sure how old he is.  They told us he was a young adult and estimated his age to be around 2 years when we took him in to the vet for the first time.  It definitely feels right.  He couldn’t have been much older than that.  Over time, he has started to develop a distinguished grey chin but he’s still very spry and active.

It meant the world to Molly that we give him a proper party.  I won’t lie, I was excited about it too.  My husband did nothing to discourage us either.  What can I say?  We’re nuts about the dog!  We got him a ‘Pupcake’ from Sweet in Harvard Square.  Their specialty dog treat is made of apples and oatmeal.  Chowder was pretty excited about it and scarfed it down after The Birthday Song.  Yes!  We sang to him!

                                                           Is that for me?!?!

We also got him a new toy from Black Ink.  They have a few nice gift items for pets.  Heck, they have a lot of nice gift items for any and everybody!!  Chowder is the proud owner of a Planet Dog artichoke.  It wasn’t cheap but it’s good quality and at the rate that he goes through chew toys, this one looks like it will last a while.  Plus, it’s made in the U.S.A.

It was a great day for everyone!  Especially Chowder!  I have to give a special shout out to my friend, Shannon.  She is the one who first saw him on Petfinder.  The local SPCA had listed him.   She searched like crazy once we decided we were ready to add a dog to the family.  If you or someone you know is considering that big step, I urge you to consider a shelter pet.  The organization that listed Chowder took extra care to assess personalities and quirks before making their animals available for adoption.  I know many lucky folks who have found immeasurable joy by opening their hearts and homes to a homeless animal who was just waiting for a second chance to be a part of a family.  Chowder has given us priceless companionship and love and we consider ourselves to be very fortunate to have him in our lives.
